Lady's Slipper
Well, I thought this was called lady’s slipper. But I went to the government site for plant identification and I wasn’t able to match this with any of the pictures I looked at. If you know which variety this is, please let the world know! Lovely little insects check into this devil of a plant lured by the water inside, but they don’t check out.
Yes, yesterday’s plant was something in the banana family. I’ll verify which “branch” next time I’m there.
It’s a type of pitcher plant. An amazing example of evolution, don’t you think? There’s even a lid to trap the insects once they’ve gone in. These plants evolved in areas where there are almost no nutrients in the soil. They get their nitrogen by eating insects. Thank goodness they’re not big enough to eat humans, huh?
